Osteopathic theory considers that a) structure determines function, b) the body is a dynamic unit of function and c) the body is self-healing and self-regulating. Using these ideas we can say that the body is a self-healing organism that maintains its ability to do so with optimal motion capacities. The job of the Osteopathic Manual Practitioner is to find motion within the body where it has been lost and restore motion to these areas so that the body can be more efficient and capable of healing itself. To do this the practitioner will assess for motion visually and manually (hands on) and then implement manual methods of treatment that work within the patient's comfort levels. Treatments are meant to be relaxing as this is benefits the nervous system and creates an environment in which the body will welcome the change. The approach is holistic (whole body) due to the previously mentioned concept that the body is a "dynamic unit of function". Dysfunction in the body can be considered as a mechanical chain of misplaced forces and to reinstate health means to balance these forces.

I have been studying the body in many different contexts since the end of high school in 2011 and created a vision to assist people in their healing journey. Osteopathy has brought that to life and provided me the tools necessary to lend a hand in the health care landscape.
